Senior Software Engineer -- Tokyo Office

PacketVideo is looking for an energetic and inventive senior software engineer that enjoys technical challenges and can be an integral part of the talented team of engineers in our Tokyo office. In this role, you will help design and develop innovative multimedia software products for the connected home, mobile, and the cloud to power engaging media experiences and give people access to their audio content, images, and videos across devices.

At PacketVideo, you will work with the latest devices, operating systems, and technologies while solving interesting challenges in media delivery and management. As part of the PV team in Japan, you will interact with customers to help them utilize PV software in their products. In addition to designing and creating new code from requirements, you must be able to quickly familiarize yourself with existing code and debug or extend it. You will work as part of a global team using an agile development process. We need an engineer that takes pride in building great products and has the ability to keep pace with rapidly changing technologies.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field.
  • At least 4 years of experience developing and maintaining commercial software.
  • Experience with test-driven development strongly desired.
  • Multimedia and/or network communication protocol knowledge.
  • Software architecture design experience.
  • Familiarity with Android and iOS development tools.
  • Advanced knowledge in C, C++, Java, ObjectiveC, and/or JavaScript.
  • Working knowledge of software configuration management tools (Accurev, GIT/Stash, etc.).
  • Excellent coding and documentation practices.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in Japanese and English.
  • Knowledge of UPnP, DLNA, DTCP-IP, PlayReady DRM, and HTTP protocol a plus.
  • Experience using an agile development methodology.

Director of Engineering -- Tokyo Office

PacketVideo is looking for a passionate, energetic, and creative Director of Engineering to lead and grow the talented team of engineers located in our Tokyo office. You will work as a key part of the global engineering team to design, develop, and deliver innovative software products that power engaging media experiences and give people access to their audio, images, and video across devices.

At PacketVideo you will have the opportunity to work and contribute in the vibrant and exciting area that lies at the intersection of media, cloud, and mobile. In this role, you will be responsible for managing, mentoring through regular feedback, and leading the team to deliver elements of the product roadmap. As part of the PV team in Japan, you will also interact with customers to help them utilize PV software in their products and help solve challenging technical problems. We need a leader that relishes challenges and can multi-task, prioritize, and deliver.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • BS or higher degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field required.
  • At least 8 years of experience developing and maintaining commercial software.
  • Several years of experience managing, leading, and hiring a team of engineers.
  • Proven ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects, make priority decisions, and meet aggressive deadlines with high-quality results.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Japanese and English.
  • Superior analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Deep understanding of agile software development processes and test-driven development practices.

Sr. Java/J2EE Software Developer -- Charlotte, NC Office

In this role, you will help design and develop innovative multimedia software products for the connected home, mobile, and the cloud to power rich media experiences and give people access to their audio content, images, and videos across devices.

As part of the PV team in Charlotte, you will interact with customers to help them utilize PV software in their products. You will work as part of a global team using an agile development process. Scope:

Design, document, implement, and unit test robust Java software including:

  • Services for delivering personalized information to mobile devices
  • Tools and algorithms to extract and relate relevant content from news feeds, TV programming guides, and other sources
  • Relational database structures and queries for efficient update and retrieval of data
  • Web-based user interfaces to identify, administer, and present personalized information in a compelling way.
  • Participate as part of a cohesive, focused team in project planning, architecture, design discussions, and code reviews.
  • Perform additional system integration and QA tasks as needed to deliver software on time, with quality

Requirements:

  • BS in Computer Science or related engineering degree
  • High proficiency with the Java language and SDK libraries
  • 3 years of client/server or distributed systems development using Java
  • Experience developing software that interacts with an RDBMS
  • Firm understanding of object oriented programming concepts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with J2EE, servlets, and other enterprise Java tools such as Spring, Lucene, and Jaspersoft.
  • Proficiency with common Java development tools such as Eclipse, JUnit, Tomcat, Ant, and Apache Java libraries
  • Knowledge of Internet and Web technologies such as HTTP, HTML5, JavaScript, Web Services, and SOA
  • Experience in software product development
  • Familiarity with RDBMs (Oracle, MySQL), Hadoop, and NoSQL DBs
