PV Continues Winning Tradition of Enabling High-Speed Media Services on NEC Devices
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 10, 2009)—PacketVideo (PV) announced today that its CORE™ multimedia client framework has been selected by NEC to power advanced media services on the new SoftBank 830N handset. The SoftBank 830N has been on sale in Japan since February 2009, and is the first NEC Linux phone to incorporate PV’s CORE media engine. CORE is the industry-leading multimedia application framework that powers more than 260 million devices worldwide for tier one mobile operators.
The SoftBank 830N handset is a middle range phone that supports HSDPA to address the growing demand for high-speed Internet video and music streaming. PV’s CORE software enables an advanced quality 3GPP RTP/RTSP video and music streaming player on the handset.
"NEC has long been a quality consumer brand, based in part on its ability to carefully select only the best technology partners to team with in the industry,” said Kazunori Takagi, president, PV Japan. "By incorporating PV’s CORE technology, the SoftBank 830N will deliver an exciting new chapter in mobile multimedia entertainment, ensuring hassle-free enjoyment of media anytime, anyplace.
