PANASONIC COLLABORATES WITH PACKETVIDEO TO PROVIDE TWONKYMEDIA SERVER FREE TO VIERA TV USERS
Award-Winning Media Server Software Enables Consumers to Share Digital Content within the Home Network
SAN DIEGO, CA (April 28, 2009)—PacketVideo (PV) announced today that a license for its award-winning TwonkyMedia™ server software will be included with the new Panasonic VIERA® Z1, V10 and G15 TV series, available sequentially in European countries starting in May 2009. TwonkyMedia server, provided at no charge to VIERA TV users, will enable them to stream digital photos and videos from their Windows PCs and Macs to the TV, as well as to hundreds of other popular compatible consumer electronics devices.
TwonkyMedia server removes the barriers that have traditionally made designing and enabling media sharing among multiple connected devices throughout the home a painstaking process for manufacturers. The award-winning software supports more media files and syncs with a wider range of devices – including PCs, gaming consoles, and DLNA- and UPnP-compliant hardware – than any other media server software on the market.
The new Panasonic VIERA TVs are 1080p full-HD flat panel digital, enabling consumers to easily play back high-quality video, including DivX content with subtitles. TwonkyMedia server works with the largest media collections and can stream multiple high-definition videos simultaneously, making it the perfect choice for the new VIERA TVs.
“While the connected digital home has been an industry focal point for years, it’s finally coming to fruition, and TwonkyMedia server is helping make the vision a reality,” said Kazunori Takagi, president, PV Japan. “Consumer electronics manufacturers see the clear value of accelerating convergence by incorporating powerful media server software in their products. PV is helping its partners break down compatibility barriers, making media stored on a standard network accessible throughout the home to drive and meet the next wave of consumer demand.”
To obtain TwonkyMedia server, which is available at no charge for VIERA TV owners until the end of 2010, users should visit the TwonkyMedia website and download the software using the license key included in the TV packaging.
