New Multi-Format Media Player Supports MTP Transfer of Protected WMA9 Music File Between PC and Mobile Phone

PacketVideo today announced that a new handset from Fujitsu Limited incorporates PacketVideo's new Universal pvPlayer™ multimedia technology for the enjoyment of high-quality mobile music. Fujitsu Limited, a leading provider of customer-focused IT and communications solutions for the global marketplace, has begun shipping of the Fujitsu F902iS, the first NTT DoCoMo's 3G FOMA™ handset that supports Microsoft® Windows Media® Audio protected by Microsoft DRM technology. Using Universal pvPlayer that supports multiple file formats, F902iS will run three important media formats (3GPP, i-motion™ and Windows Media), and two digital rights management systems (WMDRM10 and SD binding DRM). Fujitsu developed the handset for Japan’s FOMA network, a 3G service developed by NTT DoCoMo, Inc.

The F902iS uses PacketVideo’s revolutionary new Universal pvPlayer that enables multiple file formats to be played by a single multimedia client solution. With PacketVideo Universal Player, the F902iS can play 3GPP, i-motion and Microsoft Windows Media content. The phone also supports Microsoft MTP for Phone-PC music file transferring with Fujitsu’s cooperation, and also supports the i-motion player. The F902iS is the 14th FOMA handset from Fujitsu that incorporates PacketVideo multimedia technology, which is available from June 16 in Japan.

Takeshi Natsuno, Senior Vice President, Managing Director, Multimedia Services of NTT DoCoMo, says “DoCoMo is looking forward to providing the best quality mobile music services to our customers. With the F902iS powered by PacketVideo’s cutting edge Universal pvPlayer technology, we became able to have the music formats people want, available in one handset.”

“We are delighted to work with Fujitsu to bring our new Universal pvPlayer to FOMA phones,” said Jim Brailean, CEO of PacketVideo. “Our new multimedia technology makes it possible for exciting new mobile music services for NTT DoCoMo FOMA subscribers. This is a great example of our close working relationship with NTT DoCoMo in the development of application software centered on multimedia technology.”

"Fujitsu is committed to bringing new cutting-edge products to market for mobile users," said Tatsuo Tomita, Corporate Vice President & President of the Mobile Phones Unit at Fujitsu. "With PacketVideo’s and Fujitsu’s technologies, the F902iS is the first phone in Japan to deliver protected music content in the Microsoft Windows Media Audio 9 format. This is a huge milestone for mobile services in Japan. Universal pvPlayer will enable Fujitsu to add new technology and features.”

"We are deeply honored to have our Universal Player software in Fujitsu’s latest FOMA handset, the 14th Fujitsu FOMA handset with PacketVideo technology," said Kazunori Takagi, president of PacketVideo Japan. "This is a very important handset because it is the first phone of its kind."
